Meet team member – Gwyneth
Introducing our Events Officer… Gwyneth!
Gwyneth has been working at Swansea University for 11 years and has been in her Events Officer role for the last 10 months.
From the moment you enquire to the minute the last person leaves, Gwyneth will be your supporting officer. Gwyneth helps support your event from start to finish, from making sure the tables are set in the room to organising your on-site accommodation.
We managed to steal Gwyneth away for a 20-minute Q&A session and find out what she loves most about managing events at Swansea University.
Why Events?
I love helping people and am very passionate about my job. I love to make sure that my clients will have the best experience possible at my organised event. Plus, every event is different and that’s what makes it a challenge.
What’s your favourite event you’ve looked after?
My favourite event has been the M2A conference and dinner which happened in April this year. M2A is a Materials and Manufacturing Academy that provides industry led postgraduate research training. The event allows both students and industrialists to discuss their research and the future of engineering.
This was the first big conference that I helped organise and they’ve even booked for next year already. I feel proud of what we achieved during this great event.
What’s your favourite thing about the University?
The Bay campus, it’s absolutely beautiful and you’re so close to the beach especially if you’re having a stressful day, you can just go for a walk and come back feeling refreshed. I know this is really cheesy but also the staff are all so nice and friendly, and even though we’re different departments we work well together and complement each other nicely.
What’s the best reoccurring event at the University?
That’s a tough one… I think I would have to say Engineering Summer School. 16–17-year-old potential students will come and stay on site and attend lectures. It’s a chance to work with different departments and is a great opportunity for us to promote the University to future students in such a fun way. It’s a great event that highlights what’s best about Swansea University.
If you were to host an event yourself, what is a must have feature?
A good location is a must have feature. For me, it would have to be The Great Hall every time, being out on the balcony area of the bar is the best, plus the bar isn’t just offering good views it also has great drinks. The building is so multi-functional and there are so many options for different events that can be held here.
And finally, what’s your favourite thing to do outside of work?
Spend time with my grandchildren. (Yes, you read correctly – we can’t believe Gwyneth is a grandmother either)
We hope you enjoyed gaining an insight into our Events Officer Gwyneth, up next… Deanna!
