Leading Social Scientists Meet in Swansea

Swansea University played host to Wales’ largest social science conference last month.

We were delighted to welcome policy makers and practitioners as well as leading social scientists to the campus for the seventh annual Wales Institute of Social & Economic Research, Data & Methods or WISERD conference.

The two day event brought over 150 delegates from across Wales to explore a range of themes from education, social care, health and wellbeing to inequalities, data and methods.  Over 100 papers were presented at the event and the impressive lineup of speakers included: Ottón Solís, founder, president and three times presidential candidate of the Citizens’ Action Party (Partido Accion Cindadana) in Costa Rica; Andrew Oswald, Professor of Economics at the University of Warwick; Michael Hout, Professor of Sociology at New York University and Director of the Center for Advanced Social Science Research (CASSR); and  David B. Grusky, Professor of Sociology at Stanford University, who delivered an inspiring keynote on US social mobility and the American Dream.
