World Rugby 7s Stars Compete in Swansea

Excitement is building here at Swansea University as we get set to host the FISU World University Championships Rugby Sevens at our world-class International Sports Village this week.

This biannual tournament has been travelling the globe since the first championship took place in China in 2004, but this is the very first time that it has taken place in the UK!

The championship will bring to Swansea 20 rugby sevens teams (10 male and 10 female) from 16 nations including Great Britain, China, Japan, Portugal, Namibia, France and Canada. Newcomers to the tournament include the Czech Republic, New Zealand and Australia!

During the three days of world-class university rugby sevens, Great Britain men’s team are hoping to achieve a triple “whammy” with their third win in a row.

The Great Britain women’s team will be fighting hard to win back their 2012 title after Canada pipped them at the post in the last tournament which was held in Brazil.
